Sheelin

This scarf came about during the Southeastern Animal Fiber Festival (SAFF) in Asheville, North Carolina. Christa at Aisling Yarns was dyeing beautiful colors in her lovely soft non-superwash Blue Faced Leicester (NSW BFL) wool and I just had to work with them!
Because the name of the yarn company, Aisling, is Irish for dream or vision, I decided to return to my obsession with Celtic knot work and create a stranded scarf pattern. I named it Sheelin which is an old Irish word for a fae pond or lake.
This scarf is made in three sections - the Main Body and two End Sections. All are worked in the round with steek panels. After the Main Body is completed, its steek panel is cut open and stitches for an End Section are picked up. Steek stitches are added and the End Section is worked in the round. Facings are added to complete the end section.
The process is repeated for the other end. The scarf is wet blocked and tassels are added to give a bit of extra flare.
